Questions to Ask a U.S. Hospital
When a hospital responds to your child’s case, good questions turn a stressful conversation into a useful one. Ask freely — clear answers are part of good care.
About the proposed care
- What is the proposed plan, in plain words?
- What are the realistic goals — cure, improvement, stabilization, evaluation?
- What are the main risks and the likely recovery path?
- How many similar cases does your team see?
- What happens if we choose not to proceed, or to treat at home?
About costs
- What does the estimate include — and what is not included?
- What deposits or guarantees are required before scheduling?
- What happens financially if treatment changes mid-course?
- Who do we talk to about billing questions during the stay?
About logistics
- How long should we plan to stay in Cincinnati?
- How soon after arrival is the first appointment?
- What should we bring to the first visit?
- Are interpreter services available for our language?
About afterwards
- What follow-up will be needed, and can any of it happen remotely?
- What records will our home physicians receive?
- Who do we contact with questions after returning home?
